Lay Eucharistic Visitors (LEV)

Have you ever known someone who is homebound or in the hospital and would like to receive the Eucharist?  If so, you know what an important role this ministry has at St. Stephen's.  The Lay Eucharistic Visitors (LEVs) are a group of volunteers that provide weekly communion to parishioners who cannot attend church due to illness, age, or other reasons.  It is a wonderful opportunity to provide the recipients with a spiritual connection to St. Stephen's as well as an opportunity for visiting and communication with the recipient.

Each LEV is on a rotating schedule.  One LEV is assigned to provide communion to the list of recipients each weekend.  The LEV is responsible for calling the church to get the list.   Usually, the LEV then calls each recipient to find out what time the person wants to receive communion.  Normally the visit occurs after Sunday services but can also be on Saturday.

A training program is required to be an LEV and is usually offered once a year.  After the training, there is a brief commissioning that is held at one of the Sunday services.  For more information or to become a volunteer, please contact Pat Batton (lev@ststephenshouston.org) or the church office at 713-528-6665.

If you would like to receive communion at your residence or in the hospital on a temporary or regular basis, please call the church office at 713-528-6665.
